Jane is studying towards a Diploma in Business and a certificate in Quality Assurance. As an “older” student, Jane says she believes she brings a different perspective to the Student Advisory Group.

“I have studied at university overseas as a residential student and also as a distance learning student so am able to comment through experience on both types about their pros and cons.”

Jane decided to study with the Open Polytechnic when she was living in Alexandra. With few tertiary education institutions to choose from, Jane says one of the benefits of studying through the Open Polytechnic that appealed to her was the flexibility to continue learning when and where she was able to.

“I have for the most part found the experience good. Some subjects you chat online to other students a lot more than others also but I think it depends on the students as well as the course.”

Jane works at the Thames Mineralogical Museum on a casual basis and volunteers at Huntly Museum.

“In my spare time, I mess around with my dogs and I love reading especially murder mystery type of books and never go anywhere without my kindle and even my mobile phone has books on it.”
