Henry Geary (Taranaki, Ngati Kahungunu) is studying towards a Bachelor of Business (Accounting and Management), which he began in 2013 while also working fulltime in the telecommunications industry.
“The telecommunications industry is constantly changing on a daily basis. In order to keep up, I need to update my skills and knowledge just as quickly,” explains Henry.
“Open Polytechnic was the only place I could find that offered the right qualifications, with the flexibility of learning in my own time in any location,” says Henry.
Henry feels studying has given him a solid base in any industry, and will help improve his employability.
“I have found that the courses within this qualification have changed in the past four years, so I’m confident that my learning journey is keeping current.”
Henry joined the Student Advisory Group as part of his commitment to being a student member of the Academic Board.
“The Student Advisory Group plays an important role within Open Polytechnic, giving the Executives and Learning Delivery a student perspective, to help evolve distance learning.” says Henry.
Henry is an avid rugby fan and supports the Southland Stags. He also enjoys playing a bit of golf when he’s not too busy running after his two young sons (6 & 3).
