Career opportunities

You will be able to work in roles where you can design, manufacture and maintain the tools, engines, machines and systems that keep modern society moving. Areas you could work in include product design, development and commissioning of machinery, appliances, and equipment.

This qualification will also prepare you for the New Zealand Diploma in Engineering Practice (NZDEP), which is the minimum standard of competency expected of a qualified engineering technician.

This programme is available for part-time study only. You can enrol in a maximum of two courses per trimester.

Laboratories and workshop access

Eight courses in this programme include a two and a half-day compulsory laboratory:

You will be informed about the lab location at the beginning of your trimester. You will need to make your own travel arrangements and pay for your travel cost. See the individual course pages for more details. 

For DE3301 Engineering Practice, you need to have access to an engineering workshop and a local trainer. 

Maximum programme completion time

To be awarded the qualification, the programme must be completed in no more than 10 years of first enrolment, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
