In this course ākonga synthesise and apply their knowledge and understandings of the New Zealand Curriculum in relation to the four curriculum areas: Mathematics and Statistics; Science, Social Sciences, and Technology. They investigate complementary research-based approaches, pedagogies and assessment, which deepen their understanding of the educative process.

This course builds on inclusive practices introduced in their first practicum. Ākonga further consider what inclusive education to meet the needs of diverse learners means for them as teachers. They acquire skills and strategies to engage children to deliver culturally appropriate, responsive, respectful and informed learning and teaching practices exemplifying partnership with parents, whānau and communities.

Learners who successfully complete this course will be able to:

  • Analyse the intent of New Zealand Curriculum and compare and contrast the four curriculum areas: Mathematics and Statistics, Science, Social Sciences, and Technology
  • Devise learning to support a local curriculum for Mathematics and Statistics, Science, Social Sciences and Technology curriculum areas
  • Describe how te ao Maori and Pacific knowledges shape the enacted local curriculum
  • Critique research-based pedagogies that support effective learning and teaching.
