In this online course ākonga analyse curriculum and assessment language and approaches in Aotearoa focusing on the New Zealand Curriculum Levels 1-4. They explore common elements of the New Zealand Curriculum (the front end) and the synergies and differences between four curriculum areas: English, Arts, Health and Physical Education and Learning languages.

Ākonga examine the four curriculum documents in depth with a specific focus on applying a range of appropriate assessment for learning processes to inform next steps in learning. A strong focus of this course is enhancing the ability of ākonga to apply advanced skills and knowledge to meet the needs of Māori and Pacific tamariki.

Learners who successfully complete this course will be able to:
- Analyse the intent of the New Zealand Curriculum and compare and contrast the four curriculum areas: English, Arts, Health and Physical Education, and Learning Languages.
- Apply a range of assessment theories and processes in the curriculum areas of English, Arts, Health and Physical Education, and Learning Languages.
- Apply specific strategies that enhance the engagement and achievement of Māori and Pacific tamariki in planning and curriculum design.
