Please confirm with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand that you are required to complete a TER Programme. If you are an overseas trained teacher please check the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand information for overseas trained teachers.

Teaching Council requirements for English language proficiency

From 1 January 2019, Teaching Council shifted their approach to focus on evidence-based English language proficiency. Many people seeking to register as teachers speak a number of languages. They bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the teaching profession.  This is recognised in their approach to language competency by providing opportunities for candidates to demonstrate their competency in English or te reo Māori.  They accept a broad range of specified evidence.  Please ensure you meet their requirements for registration by reviewing their website page below.

Information regarding EDU704 Teaching Practicum

EDU704 Teaching Practicum is a 12 week course, during which you will complete a four week practicum. In this course, you will be assessed on your practicum and will also complete a short reflection of your progress towards the Standards for the Teaching Profession.

It is your responsibility to negotiate your practicum placement with a local school or early learning centre. You must be teaching at least half time during this practicum.

You MUST complete with passing grades EDU701, EDU702 and EDU703 before you begin EDU704 Practicum.

International students

This programme is not available for international students overseas. 

International students living in New Zealand may be able to enrol if they have a valid work permit and meet the entry criteria.

 

Computer and internet requirements

This programme is delivered online. To complete this programme you will need access to a laptop or desktop computer, reliable broadband internet connection and a data plan able to support online learning such as streaming of videos (including YouTube), downloading content, and writing and submitting online assessments. If you are unsure if your current computer or internet access allows you to complete your online learning with us, please contact us before applying to enrol.
