This course provides ākonga the opportunity to identify and describe standards and legislation relevant to their role within the disability support sector. They will reflect on workplace practices, policies, and procedures, how these are linked to identified documents, and contribute to best practice.

Ākonga will describe how they implement tools and strategies in their role within a wrap-around team. They will discuss how the team uses a person-centred approach with tangata whaikaha to overcome challenges.

At the successful completion of this course, ākonga will be able to:

  • describe and explain legislation that underpins the practice of workers in a disability support setting
  • explain how workplace policies and procedures link to legislation
  • describe the interconnections of a wrap-around team that works with tāngata whaikaha, family and/or whānau to overcome challenges in a disability support setting.
  • describe the strengths and weaknesses of using a wrap-around team to support the needs and goals of a tangata whaikaha they support in a disability support setting
  • implement and review tools and strategies used in a wrap-around team while supporting tāngata whaikaha, family and /or whānau in a disability support setting
  • describe and apply values while working in a wrap-around service supporting the goals and needs of a tangata whaikaha they support in a disability support setting.

This course is 100% internally assessed
