Ākonga will consolidate their experience and knowledge from previous practica and competently and collaboratively contribute to the learning community. Ākonga will incorporate knowledge relevant to local/ regional iwi into their curriculum planning. They will develop their skills to become proactive in building reciprocal and culturally responsive relationships with all members of the learning community. A key focus of this practicum is to develop understanding and skills in assessing and planning for tamariki who require additional support in their learning and development, behaviour or communication. Ākonga will competently co-construct relevant learning with tamariki and their whānau, building on what tamariki know and can do, and design engaging and challenging learning experiences. 

 

Learners who successfully complete this course will be able to:

  • Incorporate tangata whenuatanga (having knowledge of and commitment to local and regional iwi) into planning, curriculum content, and assessment
  • Build and sustain culturally responsive learning relationships with the learning community – including tamariki, kaiako, whānau and their communities.
  • Collaborate with the teaching team to take responsibility for an aspect of the programme
  • Apply relevant assessment methods and plan for tamariki who require additional support in their learning and development, behaviour or communication.
  • Co-construct learning experiences that scaffold learning and are engaging and challenging.
  • Utilise inquiry to develop alternative, intentional and inclusive teaching practices.

 

Assessment

100% internal assessment and includes a practicum.
