Open Polytechnic and New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology

Studying at Open Polytechnic from 1 January 2026

From 1 January 2026, Open Polytechnic will no longer be a business division of the New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology. This follows the Government's decision to disestablish NZIST, which all institutes of technology and polytechnics are currently part of.

If you are enrolling in a programme that will continue beyond 2025, Open Polytechnic of New Zealand will be the legal entity you are enrolled with, and will assume responsibility for all rights, obligations and liabilities relating to your enrolment.

Learners will experience a seamless transition to Open Polytechnic for their enrolment and ongoing learner experience. Open Polytechnic tutor support and all other learner services are available and we remain committed to providing learners with an exceptional learning experience.

If you need access to learner success services, or have any concerns, please contact us.

I am currently studying towards a Diploma in Architectural Technology, having completed a Bachelor of Business with Open Polytechnic (OP) in 2020.

I am a student member of the Open Polytechnic academic committee and a member of the interim learner advisory committee (ILAC) for NZIST.

As part of the NZIST Interim Learner Advisory Committee, I meet regularly with representatives from the Ministry of Education, NZQA, Tertiary Education, StudyLink/MSD and other students from across the country.
