Mathew Thomas, Principal Academic Staff member at Open Polytechnic, presented at the Work-Integrated Learning New Zealand (WILNZ) Conference recently.

Mathew shared research on Level 7 Graduate Diplomas in Engineering, with his findings also applicable to our Level 7 Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Civil Engineering).

His research explored how instructional design and block-mode delivery of programmes influence professional readiness.

Matthew says that this is a topic that feels highly relevant as Open Polytechnic continues to improve career pathways for future engineers and industry alignment.

He has also been reappointed to the Vocational Engineering Education Board (VEENZ) and has begun his second term on Engineering New Zealand’s Standards and Accreditation Board (SAB).

“These roles provide valuable insight into the strategic and international frameworks shaping engineering education, a strategic oversight of both professional and vocational engineering qualifications, including the Washington, Sydney, and Dublin Accords,” Mathew says.
