Programme Structure

To achieve this qualification you need to complete 360 credits, made up of 120 credits at each level (Levels 5, 6 and 7). Each course in this programme is worth 20 credits (except for BIT701 - IT Project which is worth 40 credits and runs across two trimesters).

You need to complete the compulsory Level 5 courses before you can enrol in the Level 6 then Level 7 courses.

We recommend you start with these Level 5 courses in any order:

  • BIT501 Business Concepts and Communication (this course includes a compulsory element of group activity in one assessment)
  • BIT502 Fundamentals of Programming
  • BIT503 Fundamentals of Information Technology

Then these courses in order:

  • BIT504 Programming I
  • BIT505 Introduction to Software Development
  • BIT507 Fundamentals of Systems Analysis and Design*

*If you have already successfully completed BIT506 Mathematics for IT, you will not need to enrol into BIT507 Fundamentals of Systems Analysis and Design.

Some of the advanced courses in this programme have pre-requisite courses that you must complete first. Check the course pages for pre-requisite information. For example:

  • BIT502 is pre-requisite for
  • BIT504, which is pre-requisite for
  • BIT603, which is pre-requisite for
  • BIT706 and BIT707
  • BIT604 is pre-requisite for BIT704

Before you study BIT701 IT Project, you must complete a minimum of 60 credits at Level 7 and BIT602 Project Management.

* If you have already successfully completed  BIT506 Mathematics for IT, you will not need to enrol into BIT507 Fundamentals of Systems Analysis and Design.
