If you are an educator or workplace tutor working with foundation learners supporting their development with Literacy and Numeracy skills this programme will provide you with the skills, you need.

This qualification will build on your existing adult education knowledge and skills. It will help you relate better to your learners, and gain strategies to help them learn. The qualification also meets the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) requirement to hold an adult literacy and numeracy qualification if you are working with foundation level learners.

 

What you will learn

When you achieve this qualification you will be able to:

  • Design embedded literacy and numeracy to enhance learner outcomes in a training or education programme, using a range of pedagogical and cultural practices.
  • Facilitate quality learner-centred teaching that respects the mana and diverse backgrounds of adult learners, and the wider educational and societal context.
  • Plan and use literacy and numeracy strategies, including technology-enhanced and learning, in a vocational or education programme.
  • Use assessment, including literacy and numeracy diagnostic, and evaluation as tools to enhance student learning and own teaching practice.

 

Career Opportunities

When you complete this programme, you will have the skills and knowledge for roles such as vocational, workplace or a community educator. You will have the ability to embed literacy and numeracy within a programme.

You could work with learners in a range of tertiary settings including a community organisation, a workplace setting, a PTE or a polytechnic.

Maximum Programme Completion Time

To be awarded the qualification, the programme must be completed in no more than 2 years of first enrolment, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
