Entry requirements

You need to have one of the following to enter this programme:

  • NCEA Level 2*, and a minimum total of 48 credits at Level 2 in four subjects including at least 12 credits in mathematics (preferably achievement standards in algebra, calculus or trigonometry); or
  • Equivalent qualifications (e.g. International Baccalaureate or Cambridge); or
  • Equivalent credits from appropriate trades training and/or demonstrated skills and experience.

*Including a minimum of 10 literacy credits at level 1 or higher for those who have achieved NCEA Level 2 before 2013.

20 years or older

If you are 20 or older and do not hold the minimum entry requirements you may be eligible to be enrolled if your previous educational, work or life experience indicates you have a reasonable likelihood of success. 

This qualification is currently offered fees free.

English language requirements

Domestic students for whom English or Māori is not their first language must also have an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 with no band score lower than 5.5, or equivalent.

International learners and domestic learners living overseas

You cannot study this programme if you are

  • An international learner living in New Zealand
  • An international learner living overseas
  • New Zealand citizen or permanent resident living overseas.
