You will build on your understandings of the importance of a partnership approach to working with families and communities. You will learn about your legislative, regulatory and professional obligations to respond to concerns regarding risk of harm to tamariki (children).

There is a focus on collaboration with parents, whānau, community and other agencies to support the diversity and complexity of tamariki learning needs.

You will strengthen your understanding of why high-quality early childhood education is essential to improving wellbeing and learning outcomes for tamariki.

Learners who successfully complete this course will be able to:

  • Discuss the importance of providing a high-quality teaching and learning environment for all tamariki and whānau, and the effects of poor-quality education and care.
  • Examine the legislative, regulatory and professional policies related to child protection and the implications for practice.
  • Evaluate pedagogical approaches used to understand and manage the diversity and complexity of the learning and care needs of tamariki.
