Our Learners80th AnniversaryOpen Polytechnic graduate Amanda Hyde’s New Zealand Diploma in Business (Human Resource Management) has not only given her a career qualification but also helped her land her dream role as Employment Relations Advisor at My HR.
While Amanda started studying “her passion”, human resources, straight out of school, her Open Polytechnic qualification was very practical in getting job interviews and workplace opportunities recently.
“I work in HR, this provided a great generalist overall view of the role and gave relevant points to consider across my day-to-day working,” Amanda says.
“Given that I'm in the HR field, it's really helped me to broaden my horizons inside that HR space.”
“Employment Relations, is my area of interest, and it was great to get into the correct mindset with these courses.”
Amanda was pleased to graduate after completing her studies through specialist online learning provider Open Polytechnic.
“It’s so good knowing that I've put in the hard work and I finally got here,” Amanda exclaimed.
“I juggled being a full-time mum to a toddler, full-time work, with full-time studies and passed with an A-grade average. It is possible!”
Amanda enjoyed using Open Polytechnic’s online resources.
“It’s very user friendly and easy to navigate,” she says.
“The flexibility is brilliant, and the tutors provide efficient and helpful feedback.”
Open Polytechnic turned 80 in 2026, providing thousands of Kiwis, like Amanda, access to career-focused, flexible distance learning wherever they live.
“Congrats on continuing to provide knowledge and learnings to the next cohort of industry leaders,” she says.
