Open Polytechnic employs a wide range of learning and teaching experts who provide academic and learning support to our distance learners.

We also use contractors, mostly off campus, who are subject matter experts in their fields who provide academic support and marking services. 

As a specialist provider of open flexible distance learning, we also employ highly skilled courseware design and development, and education technology professionals, administration and customer support staff, as well as library and learning centre staff who are all focused on helping Open Polytechnic learners achieve their educational goals.

      My main role is responsibility for the Foundation and Bridging Programmes offered in Lower North Island Prisons – pre-enrolment screening to graduation and everything in between.  I am the key contact for both students and Corrections Education Staff.

      I have 20 years teaching experience working with several organisations including 11 years inside prisons, and 8 years with Open Polytechnic with some interesting overlaps involving running pilots and programme development.

      I support online Level 2 learners enrolled in New Zealand Certificate in Foundation Skills (FOU205, FOU206, FOU207 and FOU208 courses). I am also responsible for the Foundation (Level 1 and 2) and Bridging Programmes (Level 4) offered to Corrections learners from seven Upper North Island sites.

      I work with both students and Corrections Education staff.

      • The Candidate of Sciences degree in literatures and languages

      All my professional experience is in the area of adult education. I believe in the power of education!

      
      I have been working with foundation learners since 2013. Foundation education helps open the doors to future training and employment and I am excited to be part of our students’ journey into better lives and opportunities.

      I am an Academic Staff Member based in Christchurch, working in the Foundation space, with responsibility for Department of Corrections’ learners across five South Island sites.  I train Corrections Education Tutors to deliver our programmes at Levels 1, 2 and 4, and liaise with them and their learners by distance and face to face.

      Education and work experience

      I initially trained as a primary school teacher, and spent 35 years as a teacher and principal in South Island schools. After a break from teaching, I took up a position tutoring face-to-face in the Canterbury Prisons, which led me to my current role with Open Polytechnic.

      I really enjoy working with second chance learners and helping them find success.

      I am an Academic Staff Member in the  New Zealand Certificate in Computing (Foundation User) (Level 2). I support students with their online course materials and offer individual guidance. My time is split between working as an educator and freelance illustration and design work. As a creative practitioner I’ve always enjoyed teaching and feel that sharing knowledge is vital part of giving back to the community.
