Michele de Bes, Experience Design Manager in the Digital Directorate at Open Polytechnic presented at the Wellington Web Accessibility Meetup Group recently.

This event was called "Influencing Change: Accessibility Success Stories” and involved sharing success stories of re-centring people in designing and building software through accessibility.

It was followed by a panel discussion where people could ask questions and dig into what worked, what didn't, and how to drive change.

This event was delivered in person and online, with more than 50 people attending.

Open Polytechnic is wanting to share and connect with others over real-world accessibility wins as part of its commitment to disabled ākonga (learners), so that others might be inspired to drive change in their own contexts.

Michele has worked at Open Polytechnic for nine years, after working for design and advertising agencies and education technology companies

“My goals centre around bringing people together across disciplines to ensure our digital features and initiatives are underpinned by universal design for learning concepts, using our Experience Design team principles,” Michele says.

Michele loves the challenge of working with the latest technology and combining this with human-centred thinking to create the best usable and inclusive experiences here at Open Polytechnic that we can.
