Open Polytechnic employs a wide range of learning and teaching experts who provide academic and learning support to our distance learners.

We also use contractors, mostly off campus, who are subject matter experts in their fields who provide academic support and marking services. 

As a specialist provider of open flexible distance learning, we also employ highly skilled courseware design and development, and education technology professionals, administration and customer support staff, as well as library and learning centre staff who are all focused on helping Open Polytechnic learners achieve their educational goals.

      I am an Academic Staff Member in Accounting  and am responsible for teaching Accounting, Auditing, Accounting Information Systems and Budgeting and Internal Controls.

      Relevant education/work experience

      I have completed my PhD in Accounting from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand in 2018. The title of my PhD thesis is “An Empirical Study on Multiple Corporate Directorships in New Zealand: A New Interpretation of Selected Governance Theories”; (A thesis abstract can be found at www.victoria.ac.nz/sacl/research/phd/recently-completed-phds-archived)

      I have completed Master of Business Administration in Accounting and Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting (with Honours) from University of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

      Work and experience relevant to my role at Open Polytechnic

      I started my teaching career in Accounting in October 2003 at University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. I worked as an Associate Professor, Assistant Professor and Lecturer at University of Dhaka for more than ten years. I also worked as a Visiting Lecturer in Accounting in several universities in Bangladesh including Stamford University of Bangladesh; Southeast University, Bangladesh; Northern University of Bangladesh; Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh and Military institute of Science & Technology.

      During my PhD study, I worked as a Tutor, Duty Tutor and Research Assistant at School of Accounting and Commercial Law (SACL), Victoria University of Wellington (VUW), New Zealand from March 2014 - June 2019.

      Before starting my teaching career, I worked as a Graduate Accountant at Hoda Vasi Chowdhury & Co, affiliated with Deloitte.

      Education and work experience

      I hold a PhD degree from Lincoln University, New Zealand, with a focus on accounting and finance. I am a full member of CPA Australia and have the designation of Certified Practising Accountant (CPA). I am the recipient of the Dean's Award for my PhD thesis from Lincoln University, New Zealand, and have received two Emerald Literati Awards for "Highly Commended Paper" in 2019 and 2020.I have also completed the New Zealand Certificate in Adult and Tertiary Teaching. I have been working in higher education for more than ten years in a variety of roles, primarily in teaching and research. I am a certified peer reviewer and mentor from Publons Academy and Web of Science (WOS) Clarivate. Recognising my academic, analytical, and research skills, I volunteer as an editorial board member, session chair, moderator, and reviewer for journals, workshops, and conferences.

      Research interests

      I am an active researcher and have published more than 17 Scopus-indexed papers (including three papers in Q1, five papers in Q2, and five papers in Q3), and three book chapters (two of which are Scopus-indexed). I have presented my research at several prestigious international conferences, including the Academy of Management (AOM), the International Conference of the Journal of International Accounting Research (IJAR), the Annual New Zealand Finance Colloquium (NZFC), and the ICGS Conference, among others. My interdisciplinary research areas include, but are not limited to, corporate governance, corporate social responsibility, sustainability, CEO (Chief Executive Officer) compensation, organisational behaviour, and social and economic issues. I am an efficient, well-organised, and responsible scholar who knows how to make things happen. I have already supervised several master's and PhD students. I am open to research collaborations, funding opportunities, and research supervision.

      I have a Bachelor of Business Studies (Accounting) and a Masters in Professional Accounting by distance education through the University of Southern Queensland, and a Certificate in Adult Education.

      I have 12 years experience teaching in a variety of areas, including financial accounting, management accounting, taxation, statistics, business finance, marketing, management, MYOB, small business, economics and guitar. I have also had five years experience working with ex-gang/prisoner rehabilitation and education.

      I have also worked in accounting trouble-shooting, consultancy, chartered accounting, meat processing, private training education and commercial stock dealing industries.
