When you have completed a qualification, you can apply to graduate. Your award may be an Open Polytechnic Certificate, a National Certificate, a National Diploma, an Open Polytechnic Diploma or Degree.
National Certificates and Diplomas are awarded by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority and we request these on your behalf. Some qualifications are awarded by external organisations such as the New Zealand Institute of Management and the New Zealand Law Society. Information about how to apply for these awards will be in your course information.
If you are receiving a National Certificate or an Open Polytechnic Certificate, we will post your certificate to you, along with an academic transcript showing the qualification awarded.
If you are graduating with a National Diploma, Open Polytechnic Diploma or Degree, you may receive your award at a graduation ceremony, held in May of each year. You can apply to graduate as soon as you have completed the final course for your qualification. If you are attending a ceremony, we will send you a copy of your academic transcript showing the qualification awarded, and we will hold your certificate until the ceremony date.
Applications for ceremony attendance must be received by 28 February each year. We will send you further ceremony details after this date.
If you are not able to attend a ceremony, we will post your certificate to you, along with an academic transcript. Your award will be listed in the in absentia section of the graduation booklet.
Our graduation ceremonies are held in May each year in Christchurch, Wellington, and Auckland. If you have any questions, please contact the Academic Registry.
