Turn your passion for helping people into a career with the Diploma in Applied Mental Health. This is an ideal qualification if you’re working or would like to work as a mental health support worker. You will gain an in-depth understanding of people and learn what specialist help is available. You’ll study the diploma by distance and will gain practical skills and experience within a mental health service.

You may be able to study our new applied degree pathway which will give you practical skills to help people who are experiencing addiction issues.

Our new pathway is also recognised by professional association, Addiction Practitioners Association of Aotearoa, New Zealand (DAPAANZ), who were established to represent the professional interests of addiction services practitioners nationwide.

Programme update

New students

The Diploma in Applied Mental Health will be closed to enrolments from new students after Trimester 1, 2018. If you wish to enrol in this programme with Open Polytechnic, please make your enrolment application prior to 13th February, 2018.

Current Students

If you were already enrolled in this qualification prior to 13th February, 2018 you can continue to enrol in your next course as normal.  To be awarded this qualification you must successfully complete all requirements by the end of Trimester 3, 2019.

You will complete a 40 hour practicum for 73328 within a mental health and addictions service, organised through Platform, a network of community-based mental health and addictions services. Please contact us before you apply to enrol in the course to discuss the practicum.
