Turn your passion for helping people into a career with the Diploma in Applied Mental Health. This is an ideal qualification if you’re working or would like to work as a mental health support worker.
Approximately 10-12 hours study per week for each 20 credit course. This may be higher at assessment or exam time.

You will gain an in-depth understanding of people and learn what specialist help is available. You’ll study the diploma by distance and will gain practical skills and experience within a mental health service.

If you were already enrolled in this qualification before 13 February, 2018 you can continue to enrol in your next course as normal.
To be awarded this qualification you must successfully complete all requirements by the end of Trimester 3, 2019.

If you are interested in a career in addiction services you may be able to study our new applied degree pathway. This will give you practical skills to help people who are experiencing addiction issues.
Our new pathway is recognised by professional association, Addiction Practitioners Association of Aotearoa, New Zealand (DAPAANZ). This organisation was established to represent the professional interests of addiction services practitioners nationwide.
As part of this programme you will complete a 40-hour practicum for 73328 - Mental Health and Addiction Studies: Treatment Issues. This practicum will be within a mental health and addictions service. It will be organised through Platform, a network of community-based mental health and addictions services.
