This programme will equip you with the necessary skills, knowledge, and attributes to maintain the welfare of animals in the lifestyle block animal sector.
This programme can only be studied part-time. It is not eligible for course-related costs, living costs or student allowances from StudyLink.
You’ll study 2 core courses and 3 specialised courses in the Lifestyle Block Animals strand. As a graduate you will acquire skills to be employed in a range of businesses associated with the care of lifestyle block animals.
For students completing the programme in the Lifestyle Block Animals context, the programme includes learning and assessment of general skills and knowledge relating to the care and handling of a minimum of three species commonly kept on lifestyle blocks in New Zealand. Animals focused on in the programme include dogs, birds/domestic poultry, cattle, goats and sheep.
What you will learn
- Comply with all regulatory requirements and relevant industry codes of practice for animal care
- Respond to normal and abnormal health and behaviour in animals
- Assist with the day-to-day care of animals.
Graduates will have the skills, knowledge, and attributes to be employed in a range of businesses associated with the care of lifestyle block animals. This may include people working as assistants for animal rescue centres, animal sanctuaries, animal breeders, animal training, boarding facilities, lifestyle block services or recreation facilities (petting farms, etc.). They may also be (or be planning to be) lifestyle block owners.
