The National Certificate in Fitness (Exercise Consultant) (Level 3) is for people who want to work as an exercise consultant, gym instructor or fitness instructor in the New Zealand fitness industry. It will provide you with the specific skills and knowledge for these roles, including introducing clients into a fitness enterprise, completing fitness assessments, designing and implementing individual exercise programmes, monitoring and motivating clients, and reviewing and adapting exercise programmes.
The National Certificate in Fitness (Exercise Consultant) (Level 3) is closed to new enrolments.

For each credit, allow about 10 hours of study. This may be higher near assessment due dates.

Once you have finished the certificate you will be able work in the fitness industry as an exercise consultant. You may also move onto personal training by completing OP4270 Certificate in Fitness (Personal Training) . This qualification is provided by the Open Polytechnic through a sub-contracting agreement with the New Zealand Institute of Health and Fitness.
You need to attend regular workshops to complete this qualification. These are held in Auckland (Central, North Shore and South Auckland), Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch. You will need to meet the cost of any accommodation, food and any travel required. The workshops support the printed course materials and practical experience, allow you to network with other students and meet your tutors.
Our open courses are open for enrolment every month. Each open course starts on the first Monday of the month you choose for enrolment. You must complete your study within the given start and end dates.
