The main purpose of this course is to take you on a journey of the Māori view of the natural world by exploring important Māori concepts. It will also explore Māori art and design elements and the significance of this art to the Māori view. During this journey, the course will also provide you with reading and writing skills.

Specifically, this course will build skills and confidence in the following areas:

  • Māori concepts
  • Māori art elements
  • Reading to understand and extracting meaning
  • Writing to communicate ideas 
  • Read text for practical purposes
  • Initiating, participating and engaging in spoken interactions

Students who successfully complete this course will be able to

  • Identify and describe a Māori view of the natural world
  • Explain design elements used to generate Māori art
  • Read texts for practical purposes 
  • Read texts with understanding
  • Write to communicate ideas for a purpose and audience
  • Initiate, participate and engage in spoken interactions
