Students who successfully complete this course will be able to
- Examine the principles of combustion and fire development
- Debate and summarise the factors involved in the extinction of fire
- Evaluate and explain the principles of heat transfer and spread of fire
- Compare and contrast the process of smoke generation and development within a compartment
- Predict fire development and smoke filling in a simple volume
Assessment
Assessment for this course is:
- 20% Practical lab
- 30% Tests
- 50% Examination.

Labs requirements
A 3 day practical Laboratory held in either Christchurch or Rotorua is a requirement for this course.
Your lecturer/tutor will confirm the actual dates (and further requirements) within the first week of the trimester. It is recommended that you keep this in mind as it is a compulsory laboratory.
