The course will cover the following:
- Contracts, parties to a contract, roles and responsibilities, risks, alternative contract arrangement and external stakeholders
- Project Management functions, project failure, project life cycle, quality and quality control, time cost/quality balance, project creep, scheduling techniques, work breakdown structures, critical path analysis, PERT charts, Gantt charts, operations management, uncertainty and risk management
- Contract law and Documentation, schedules of Quantities, costing and Tendering, time cost/quality balance, contract types, engineering company structures
- Requirements of discipline specific Conditions of Contract (NZS3910), dispute resolution
- Professionalism and Ethics, consultation, Treaty of Waitangi, sustainability
- Resource Management Act

On successful completion of this course, you should be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of, and apply, the fundamentals of project planning and project management
- Prepare and evaluate cost estimates, tender documentation and contract documentation
- Administer and supervise contracts in accordance with the relevant Standards and/or Codes of Practice
- Critically evaluate professional practice principles and their application to an engineering environment
