Assessment and Evaluation for Adult and Tertiary Teaching

This online course introduces students to a range of contemporary assessment theories and practices to inform assessment design.  The focus on assessment includes examination of moderation principles and practices to enable equitable outcomes for all learners.  

Evaluation as a means of ensuring the ongoing effectiveness of programme planning and teaching for student learning is also explored.  

The primacy of relationships for adult teaching and learning is acknowledged throughout.

Students who successfully complete this course will be able to

  • Discuss contemporary assessment theories and practices for adult and tertiary teaching programmes.
  • Develop assessment activities to meet learning outcomes of an adult or tertiary teaching programme, drawing on contemporary assessment theories and practices.
  • Demonstrate understanding of moderation principles and practices for equitable learner outcomes.
  • Demonstrate understanding of evaluation aims and methods to establish effectiveness of adult teaching and learning.
  • Analyse and use evaluation data to inform own professional teaching practice, then develop and implement plans for self improvement.
