This course introduces foundational knowledge of lifestyle block sheep, and their care needs. It will teach students about sheep anatomy and physiology, sheep breeds, husbandry, nutrition, health procedures, hygiene, shearing, cleaning, safe handling, and transporting.

Students will be able to apply this underpinning knowledge to safely care for lifestyle block sheep.
This course will enable students to facilitate the improvement of lifestyle block animal welfare practices in New Zealand.

Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
- Identify sheep breeds and their physical features; and describe normal behaviour.
- Identify basics of sheep anatomy and physiology, life stage development and husbandry; and describe the impact on care and well-being.
- Describe general nutritional needs, special dietary needs and substances toxic for sheep.
- Apply safe handling techniques to handle and transport sheep.
- Assist with regular and routine sheep care, in accordance with compliance requirements, to protect animals, humans and the environment.
