You will be able to apply this knowledge to safely care for rabbits or rodents under limited supervision in an animal care organisation. 

This online course will enable you to facilitate the improvement of companion rabbit and rodent care practices in New Zealand.

Learners who successfully complete this online course will be able to:

  • Identify companion animal rabbit and rodent species and breeds, their physical features; and describe normal behaviour.
  • Identify basics of rabbit and rodent anatomy and physiology, life stage development and husbandry; and describe the impact on care and well-being.
  • Describe general nutritional needs, special dietary needs and substances toxic for rabbits and/or rodents.
  • Apply safe handling techniques to handle and transport rabbits and/or rodents.
  • Assist with regular and routine rabbit and/or rodent care, in accordance with compliance requirements, to protect animals, humans and the environment.
