You will be able to apply this knowledge to safely care for birds and/or poultry either under limited supervision in an animal care organisation, or on a lifestyle block.
This course will enable you to facilitate the improvement of companion bird and domestic poultry welfare practices in New Zealand.

Learners who successfully complete this online course will be able to:
- Identify companion bird and domestic poultry species and breeds, their physical features and normal behaviour.
- Identify basics of bird anatomy and physiology, husbandry and life stage development, and describe the impact on care and well-being.
- Describe general nutritional needs, special dietary needs and substances toxic for birds and/or domestic poultry.
- Apply safe handling techniques to handle and transport birds and/or domestic poultry.
- Assist with regular and routine bird and/or domestic poultry care, in accordance with compliance requirements, to protect animals, humans and the environment.
