This course will enable students to provide quality care that improves dog welfare practices in New Zealand.

Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
- Identify dog groups and breeds and their physical features; and describe normal behaviour for dogs.
- Identify basics of dog anatomy and physiology, life stage development and husbandry; and describe their impact on care and well-being.
- Describe general nutritional needs, special dietary needs and substances toxic for dogs.
- Apply safe handling techniques to handle and transport dogs.
- Assist with regular and routine dog care, in accordance with compliance requirements, to protect animals, humans and the environment.
