This online animal care fundamentals course introduces the basics of day-to-day care of animals. It will enable you to describe compliance requirements and understand the importance of regular care tasks to maintain animal welfare.

You will be able to apply this knowledge to daily care tasks for three species of companion animals in an animal care organisation, or lifestyle block animals on a lifestyle block.

Learners who successfully complete this online course will be able to

  • Describe basic compliance systems in New Zealand for animal welfare, health and safety, and local by-laws.
  • Describe the basics of general animal biology and physiology (not species specific).
  • Describe the importance of regular daily care for animal welfare.
  • Perform basic regular daily animal care tasks in accordance with compliance requirements to protect animals, humans and the environment.
