This course provides student teachers with opportunities to develop the professional knowledge, skills and dispositions required to work in a range of early childhood services and settings. The first practicum introduces student teachers to pedagogical skills, bi-cultural practices, and professional behaviours to ensure inclusive and respectful relationships with young children, their families and whānau. There is a focus on providing safe, welcoming and interesting environments for young children through the development of pedagogical skills such as observation, and a sound knowledge of early childhood regulatory requirements.

This course includes a compulsory 5 week full-time practicum placement in an early childhood centre and a 2 day workshop.
