It emphasises the importance of recognising culture, including indigenous cultures and especially Māori culture, as a significant social context for understanding the meaning of human behaviour.

Social and individual factors like personality, emotion, motivation, as well as social, cognitive and human development are key aspects influencing our behaviour within social contexts. The dynamic influence of others on behaviour are addressed through topics such as:

  • prejudice
  • interpersonal attraction
  • altruism
  • aggression
  • social influence and attitudes.

This course complements 73195 General & Applied Psychology, which teaches the remaining introductory psychology topics.
