This course introduces formative research skills and methods of data gathering, in light of current assessment approaches and practices, including Māori and Pasifika worlds.

Models of reflective practice are introduced with links to the role of assessment in supporting young children’s learning and development.

Students who successfully complete this course will be able to

  • Demonstrate library skills including using electronic data bases to access early childhood journals and educational research
  • Identify a range of data gathering methods to plan and provide for young children’s learning and development 
  • Discuss the role of assessment in supporting children’s learning and development 
  • Develop an understanding of praxis and models of reflective practice
  • Discuss current research and literature involving Māori and Pasifika children and their families.
