The programme is fee free to eligible students (see eligibility details under the Fee Free tab on the qualification page)
If you are home schooled, you must have a letter from a parent who is primarily responsible for your home schooling, approving the programme of study. You must also have a school exemption certificate to show you are being home schooled even if you are over 16 years of age.
If you are enrolled in a secondary school, you must have a letter from the school principal approving the course of study and stating that you will not be absent from school to complete this programme.
You must be aged 16 years or over. If you are under 16 you must have a school exemption certificate from the Ministry of Education
No, you will not need access to a computer to complete this qualification. You will study via paper based materials sent to you by courier. You will be supported by a tutor who will maintain regular contact with you.
You have up to 20 weeks to complete each course but you can work at your own pace. Both Level 1 and Level 2 is made up of four courses so you can work at the pace that suits you and fits in with your other commitments. You tutor will keep in regular contact with you along the way.

No. FOU105 to FOU108 are all at Level 1.
Depending on what credits you already have on your Record of Achievement, if you complete both programmes you may have enough credits to apply to NZQA for NCEA level 1 or 2, as well as achieving the NZ Certificates in Foundation Skills (Level 1) and (Level 2) with the Open Polytechnic.
If you have reached Step 4 Literacy or Step 5 Numeracy no, you do not need to do an assessment.
When you have finished the assessment you can see a visual report with your results. There is no pass or fail for the assessment.
The Compulsory Literacy Assessment is a mandatory requirement from the Tertiary Education Commission for all Level 1 to 2 qualifications. If this your first time studying with Open Polytechnic, and you are studying a Level 1-2 course, you will need to complete a compulsory literacy assessment at the start and end of your study time. When your enrolment is received you will receive an email with your password and a link to the assessment. Your enrolment will be finalised once the assessment has been completed. A second assessment will be emailed to you at the end of your study time.
No, all the assessments are embedded in the course materials. There are no external examinations.
