NC1471 Cross credits and course completions
Which units do I have to do to complete?
To complete the National Certificate in Horticulture (Level 3) you must complete 105 credits, with at least 40 credits at Level 3 or above. You must complete all courses in the Compulsory Group, and at least 43 credits from the Elective Group. Click on the ‘Choose courses’ tab to see the courses available.
How do I find out what units I have done already with another education provider?
You can find out what units you have completed by getting your Record of Achievement from NZQA.

What units can be cross credited from other qualifications?
You may be able to cross credit other Horticulture Level 3 unit standards to your current qualification.

Where/when are workshops held?
Workshops are voluntary and available in some regions only.
If you decide you do want to attend a workshop, information on their dates and locations are available on the online course pages which you will get access to once your enrolment is confirmed and the course has started.
Do I have to attend workshops?
No you don’t have to attend the study support workshops, they are voluntary and held in some regions only.
You can choose to complete courses by distance learning, or by attending workshops which can provide supplementary learning opportunities for students on top of what they learn through the distance learning course materials. If you decide you do want to attend a workshop, information on their dates and locations are available on the online course pages which you will get access to once your enrolment is confirmed and the course has started.
Who do I have to get to sign the declaration at the front of the assessment workbook?
Students sign the declaration themselves to confirm it is all their own work
How do I check to see if you have received my assessment?

How do I check to see if my assessment has been marked?
You can log into My Open Polytechnic to go to ‘My Qualifications & Courses’ to see if your assessment marks are available.

Can I get an assessment extension?
To request an assessment extension log in to My Open Polytechnic and click on ‘Request an assessment extension’ link under the ‘Key dates’ box.

When is my assessment due?
You can log into My Open Polytechnic to go to ‘My Qualifications & Courses’, then click on your qualification (National Certificate in Horticulture Level 3) to see your assessment due dates.

Will the whole qualification be fee free?
The fee free offer only applies to the learning materials supplied by Open Polytechnic, and the programme’s unit standard enrolment fees and the annual administration fee. It does not include provision of textbooks or any other additional fees incurred by a student in taking these programmes which will remain the responsibility of the student.

Once I’m enrolled, how do I find out my student number?
We will supply your student number to you when your enrolment is confirmed.
Once I’m enrolled, how long does it take for my learning material to be sent out?
Once your enrolment has been confirmed your learning materials should arrive within four working days.

Can I get a student discount card?
Once your enrolment has been confirmed and you have your student id number, you can apply for a Student Card by going to http://www.openpolytechnic.ac.nz/current-students/student-services-forms-and-information/student-id-and-student-discounts/
What should I enrol in for my first enrolment?
If this is your very first enrolment in the National Certificate in Horticulture (Level 3) then the first courses you must enrol in and complete before you can enrol in any further courses are:
- US22177 Demonstrate knowledge of the structure and function of plants
- US829 Demonstrate knowledge of plant nomenclature.
- US27707 Demonstrate knowledge of plant propagation by budding, grafting, layering and tissue culture
- US27708 Demonstrate knowledge of sexual and asexual plant propagation
Once you have completed these three courses you can enrol in up to 21 credits at a time. These courses can be completed in any order.
