Study support from the Library and Learning Centre

The Library and Learning Centre -Te Whare Pukapuka Wāhanga Whakapakari Ako - offers a range of learning support services and resources to help you achieve your study goals.

Our online library available 24/7 and is free, convenient and easy to use. As well as a distance lending service, with free and fast delivery, you can access resources online, including guides on how to look for information and information on study techniques.

Learning Support

Our team can give you free, confidential, one-on-one support by telephone, email, Skype or to help with your studies, including:

Study tips and techniques
  • Academic writing skills, including understanding the assignment topic,  assignment structure and flow, and instruction words
  • Reading and note making skills
  • APA referencing, APA style
  • Understanding and preventing plagiarism
  • Study skills e.g. time management, setting learning goals
  • How to find and evaluate information
  • Feedback on two paragraphs from a student’s assignment
  • How to navigate the learning platforms, where to find the assignments and their due dates, and course readings
  • Preparing for exams, where to find previous exam papers

Please note we are not able to:

  • Provide a ‘writing review service’
  • Proofread or edit students’ assignments
  • Provide feedback on assignment content
  • Correct a Reference list
  • Provide assistance with maths and statistics, apart from providing online resources

We encourage students to discuss assignment and exam issues with their tutor.

We can also help you to develop strategies for coping with study and exam stress, provide help searching for information using the online library and also help to decide on the best sources of information for your topic.

The Centre also has a Kaiārahi Akoranga Māori (Māori Learning Support Advocate) and a Pasifika Learning Support Advocate who provide specialist learning support and mentoring to Māori and Pasifika learners, and a Disability Learning Support Advocate who assists students with a disability, specific learning need or health condition that may affect their study.
