Jessica Wiperi (Tūhoe and Ngāi Tahu/ Kāi Tahu) is studying full-time towards a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) whilst working part-time at an accounting firm.
“I have been studying with Open Polytechnic for two years now and I’m in my last year, currently finishing my last two courses following the Chartered Accountant pathway under New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (NZICA),” explains Jessica.
“I chose to study with Open Polytechnic after initially completing my diploma at another institution in Canterbury, but as I moved out of Christchurch and into Rolleston, I decided to sign up with Open Polytechnic because it is online.”
“I have enjoyed the experience of working with other students and studying online when and where I want. The flexibility to study online whilst working part time and not having to travel to attend lectures or tutorials is great!”
Jessica joined a student chat group and feels that it’s been a great help in self-motivation, as well as keeping in close contact with the lecturers.
“I joined the Student Advisory Group to help other students and to be a voice for others knowing what it is like having to balance work, study and family.”
Jessica wants to become a Chartered Accountant with the hope of potentially running her own accounting firm.
She enjoys community events and keeping active with her two boys, recently becoming the treasurer of her local rugby league club.
