Qualification information

A graduate of the Bachelor of Arts with a major in Information & Library Studies is highly information literate and adept at problem solving — attributes which are essential to work in information services in today’s information-rich world. The major combines knowledge of traditional librarianship with a knowledge of contemporary advances in information technology and the rapidly changing management of information services.

This qualification is recognised by LIANZA (Library and Information Association of New Zealand Aotearoa) for the purposes of professional registration.

It is also accredited by Records and Information Management Professionals Australasia (RIMPA). Successfully completion of this programme (incorporating RIM specialisation) allows members to apply for professional membership of the Association. Please consult the Programme Leader to discuss what courses should be included.

We also offer a range of certificates and diplomas that can be used as a stepping stone to a degree. We suggest you plan your study so that, where applicable, the first qualification you get is a diploma or a certificate.

However, students who have previously enrolled in this qualification with Open Polytechnic can re-enrol to complete their qualification.
