Certificate in Quality Assurance

On completion of this qualification you will be able to:

• Explain how modern quality management concepts can add value to an organisation
• Assist an organisation in realising the advantages of good customer and supplier relationships
• Explain the importance of team work and staff training in establishing a quality improvement cycle
• Select and use a range of quality tools to create quality improvements and enhance performance
• Explain how the use of appropriate statistical information and the Six Sigma approach can enhance quality of products and/or services by reducing variation
• Implement or assist in the introduction or enhancement of an appropriate quality system
• Apply appropriate tools to measure and enhance the quality of design
• Integrate environmental management and occupational health and safety into quality systems to create a total quality management approach
• Establish and participate in monitoring, quality audit and evaluation processes
• Use effective measurement and calibration techniques
• Develop effective ways of obtaining good stakeholder feedback that can be used to improve a product or service.

When you graduate you will have enhanced employment opportunities in specialist quality roles or in more general supervisory and management positions. You may also wish to pursue areas such as auditing, evaluation and implementation of organisational systems and quality improvement.

Completion of the qualification provides the necessary knowledge and skills to satisfy minimum educational requirements, which combined with work experience in quality, can lead to professional recognition as an NZOQ ‘Certified Quality Practitioner’ or ‘Certified Quality Manager’.

You will also be well placed to progress to higher-level study in business and in quality management.  The Certificate in Quality Assurance fulfils one of the entry criteria for Massey University’s Graduate Diploma in Quality Systems (Level 7).

All six courses are internally assessed. Summative assessment usually takes the form of open book assignments. Course QM503 Variation includes a case study. Although the assessment relies on written tasks, the questions have a practical focus and demonstrate application of principles in the workplace.
