Our Māori students

Open Polytechnic plays an important role in Māori tertiary education. We are the second largest provider in terms of individual students.

In 2011: 

  • 16% of the total student body were Māori (4,026 individual students)
  • 89% of Māori students were satisfied with their overall relationship with Open Polytechnic
  • 95% of Māori students said their study was valuable for their current job
  • 97% of Māori students said their study would be valuable for a future job
  • 90% of Māori students said study with Open Polytechnic was good value for money
  • 92% of Māori students said they would recommend Open Polytechnic.

Business qualifications are the most popular choice for our Māori students, especially the New Zealand Diploma in Business. Other top choices were horticulture, fitness, Early Childhood Education and Real Estate.
