Here you will find information on enrolling with Open Polytechnic.
To enrol, simply add courses to your enrolment plan from the subjects and courses section. You’ll then be guided through our online enrolment form.
Our courses are either open enrolment or fixed period enrolment.
Open enrolment. This means you can enrol in these qualifications at any time and you will have 32 weeks to complete your enrolment. Most open enrolment courses will have assessment due dates you need to meet. Open enrolment blocks begin on the first Monday of the month. Your confirmation of enrolment will show the official start and end dates of your enrolment.
Fixed period or trimester enrolment. These courses have specific set start and end dates for your enrolment.
Your enrolment will expire at one of the following points – whichever comes first.
Please check the course availability in the subject and courses section to make sure the course you want to study is available.
Please ensure you read the terms and conditions of enrolment before submitting your application. The terms and conditions are part of the online enrolment form. You can also find a downloadable PDF of the terms and conditions at the bottom of this page.
Open Polytechnic student number
This number is unique to each student and you need to use it for all communications with us. You will be sent this number with your enrolment confirmation.
The Ministry of Education’s National Student Index system allocates you a unique National Student Number (NSN) automatically when you provide your tertiary provider with evidence of your full legal name, date of birth, residential status and gender. The NSN identifies you and provides basic data that the Ministry can access. Your unique NSN stays with you for life.
Note: This number is different from your Open Polytechnic student ID number, which identifies you in our administration systems.
We aim to process enrolments as quickly and efficiently as possible. Processing time can be affected by whether you are a first-time or returning student, whether you need to provide us with additional documentation (such as verified proof of identification or a workplace reference), whether you meet all our entry requirements and how you are paying the fees. At peak processing times, such as trimester close-off dates, processing enrolments can take slightly longer.
Processing your enrolment will also take longer if we do not have all the documentation we need.
Your enrolment is confirmed when we have all the documentation we need and you have paid your fees. Course material is then made available to you.
For print-based courses, course material will be sent after your enrolment is confirmed, and within the six week period prior to your course start date.
For open online courses, you will receive an email saying when you can access your course.
For trimester online courses, access to your course material will be available two weeks before the start of the trimester.
When you receive access to your course materials check them carefully to make sure they are what you expected. If there is something missing, contact us before your course start date.
