Paying your fees

Fees must be paid before your enrolment will be confirmed. If you are enrolling in a trimesterised course, fees must be paid before the trimester starts. The Annual Administration Fee is payable with your first enrolment in each academic year. The Annual Administration Fee is non-refundable

What are my fee payment options?

You can pay by:

  • Credit card (MasterCard and Visa only) Once your enrolment is confirmed you will be emailed a quotation with a link to our online credit card payment site.
  • Internet or branch banking. We are registered with all major banks to receive payment via online banking. You will need to use your Open Polytechnic student ID number as a reference when making your payments.
  • Student loan (note: most but not all courses are approved for payment by student loans. Please contact StudyLink for more details).
  • Corporate account or contract – a letter of authorisation from the corporate account holder must be attached to your application for enrolment.

Do I have to pay for all of the courses in the degree or diploma at the start of my study?

You only need to pay for the courses you enrol in each year. For example, if you enrol in three courses, you only need to pay for those three courses.

Can I pay my course fees by instalments?

You can pay by instalments for 60 credit courses only. The first instalment is payable on enrolment with two further instalments due in May and August.

Fees Liability

If you withdraw in writing during the refund period and have not yet paid your fees, your account will be debited with the refund amount less all non-refundable fees, including the $60.00 Annual Administration Fee. You will be liable for the fees balance, and subject to debt collection processes should the debt remain unpaid. If you have not paid your fees and withdraw after the refund period, the fees must still be paid. Normal debt collection processes will be followed. If you do not withdraw formally, you are liable to pay your fees, even if you do not submit any work or attend classes. If your fees were to be paid by Student Loan and you cancel your loan, you must also apply to withdraw in writing with Open Polytechnic as you will remain liable for any applicable fees.

Note: Course materials will be sent when your enrolment has been confirmed. Check them carefully. Conditions apply if you wish to apply to withdraw, and receive a refund of your fees (less any non-refundable fees – see Terms and Conditions of Enrolment).

Inland Revenue interest write-off

If you have a student loan or anticipate applying for a student loan, we ask for your IRD number when you apply to enrol. This is so that Inland Revenue can determine your eligibility for a full student loan interest write-off and can give you that write-off.

We send your IRD number to the Ministry of Education, and they send it to Inland Revenue, along with your full-time or part-time study status. Inland Revenue will use this information to assess your eligibility and action your student loan interest write-off.

How long will my student loan take to process?

StudyLink, which manages student loans, is a separate business from Open Polytechnic. You will have to contact them to find out when your loan will be processed.

During February and June, higher numbers of applications may mean it takes longer for StudyLink to process your student loan. If you are a full-time student receiving a student loan with living costs or a student allowance, you will need to meet your coursework requirements and send in work regularly. StudyLink requires us to notify them if you are not working in your courses.

I have applied to enrol with Open Polytechnic. Will you advise StudyLink of my study details?

We can only release your details to StudyLink when they request them. You can contact StudyLink directly and ask them to make this request.

Can I get a copy of a receipt/invoice?

Yes, we can send you a reprint of your receipt/invoice. Please ensure we have your correct details and tell us what information you would like a copy of, and we will send it out to you. Please contact us to arrange this.
