OP6020 Diploma in Knowledge and Emerging Technologies

The Diploma in Knowledge and Emerging Technology is for those who require the necessary knowledge and skills to work in the areas of private and public sector e-enterprises, specifically in the technological infrastructure underpinning information management and/or knowledge management.

A focus on the future is essential in the fast-evolving world of information technology. The programme has been designed to incorporate maximum flexibility, and the core and alternate courses have been selected to provide students with the opportunity to specialise according to the following strands: design/production, organisational information, or content management.

Graduates of the Knowledge & Emerging Technologies Diploma will have sound knowledge and skills relating to technological issues supporting information and knowledge management and the developments of future trends in these areas. Knowledge Management is viewed as a business-focused approach, that is, the collection of processes that govern the creation, dissemination, and utilisation of knowledge to fulfil organisational objectives. The two core courses, 71 152 Web Design and 71 355 Future Trends and Emerging Technologies provide the framework for study in this area. 71 152 Web Design will provide students with knowledge of the underlying principles relating to organisation of web-based information. 71 355 Future Trends and Emerging Technologies will enable students to be aware of and to analyse new developments, and to achieve currency.

Graduates of this diploma will be able to:

  • address technical issues supporting information management and knowledge management
  • use and implement information system resources
  • leverage e-business technologies
  • communicate effectively in the online environment

Students will be qualified to work with technologies supporting information management and knowledge management in both private and public sector organisations. Roles may include chief knowledge officer, chief information officer, communities of practice manager, webmaster, web content manager.

To complete the Diploma in Knowledge and Emerging Technologies, you will be required to pass six courses.

Two compulsory core courses:

Must have 60 credits at NCEA Level 3.
