NC5214 National Certificate in Business Administration and Computing Level 2

This qualification will provide you with a broad range of skills that include administration work, computing, communication, and general workplace skills, enabling graduates to perform competently in positions related to business / office administration. Students enrolled in this programme will learn how to use Microsoft Windows and the Microsoft Office suite of software applications including Word, Excel, and Access.

This qualification also provides a pathway for further education / training by leading onto the National Certificate in Business Administration and Computing Level 3.

Note:

Before you can enrol, you must meet the entry requirements and have access to a computer / laptop with the required software.

Programme structure

This qualification is divided into 4 enrolment groups, the units contained in each block have been set up so you start with the easiest units first and progress to the harder ones.

Students will be required to enrol in one group of units at a time, enrolling in the next group once the previous group has been completed.

NOTE: If you have already achieved a unit standard you do not need to enrol for the unit again.

Entry requirements

Students must have gained English and Mathematics units or credits in either School Certificate, NCEA level 1, or unit standards.

If you do not have these skills you can sit a short assessment to check your skill level. Please contact the Programme Co-ordinator to obtain an assessment.

Workplace requirements

You need to be in a workplace for a few of the unit standards. Many people organise this by volunteering to work in some organisations. It may be a play centre or school, a farm or with a sole trader. Even a club may be acceptable. Almost everyone is able to do this quite easily. It provides a great opportunity for some people. Discuss this with the Programme Coordinator if it concerns you.

Course availability

The unit standard courses are open for enrolment all year around.

Computer Requirements

Hardware

You will need access to an IBM-compatible PC and a printer to complete the computing unit standards. The minimum requirements are:

  • CD or DVD read/write drive
  • Access to a printer
  • Access to Internet

Software

For computing unit standards, you need to have access to the right software. You will need to make sure that you have:

  • Windows VISTA
  • Microsoft Word 2007
  • Microsoft Excel 2007
  • Microsoft Access 2007

Note:

If you have a different version of the above software, you will need to discuss this with the Programme Co-ordinator before enrolling.

Level of study

Level 2 on the NZQA framework - equivalent to NCEA level 2 or Sixth Form Certificate. (Find out about levels of study)

Hours of study

This varies according to the unit standard – You should allow about 10 hours per credit. Approximately 600 hours for the whole programme.
