NC0951 National Certificate in Electrical Engineering Level 5

This qualification is for qualified electricians who wish to gain a qualification at an advanced trade level. It prepares candidates for a wide range of roles in the electrical contracting and industrial sectors. It has two componenets: a compulsory componenet covering advanced theory and trade practice, and an elective componenet which allows a wide choice of unit standards to reflect the varied environments in which electricians are employed.

Programme structure

The National Certificate in Electrical Engineering Level 5 has replaced the Electrical Advanced Trade Certificate Programme. It is a competency qualification of 76 credits developed by the Electrotechnology Industry Training Organisation (ETITO), and comprises compulsotry unit standards worth 46 credits, plus an elective componenet worth 30 credits.

Entry requirements

The entry requirements for this programme are the National Certificate in Electrical Engineering (electrician) Level 4, or Trade Certification in Electrical Wiring, or Registration as an Electrician.

Hours of study

Because one credit is deemed to be 10 hours of study-plus-assessment for the average learner at a particular level, the 76 credits equates to 760 hours of study. Hence it is expected that this qualification can be gained through one to two years of part-time study.
