About the course
Students acquire an understanding of the New Zealand constitution and the legal system, to enable students to apply basic law principles to common factual situations. This course is available in the following programme(s):

What students learn
Students will be able to
- Gain an introductory knowledge of the elements of the New Zealand legal system
- Understand the functions of law and distinction from other kinds of rules
- Gain knowledge of sources of law in New Zealand
- Gain knowledge of legal persons
- Gain knowledge of property
- Gain knowledge of contract and torts.

Alternative Study Option
The New Zealand Law Society currently exempts students with a recent pass in the semesterised course 110 Introduction to Commercial Law from the requirement to pass Introduction to the Legal System. See Alternative Legal Executive Study Option.
