7472 Manufacturing Jewellery Stage 2
About the course
This course develops and builds on the basic jewellery knowledge taught in the stage 1 course. Theory subjects covered in this course are cleaning, joining, setting, making tools and enamelling and other surface finishes are introduced. The course also introduces Crystallography and the science of gemmology.

What students learn
On completing the course, students should be able to:
- Describe how to solder, polish and clean jewellery during manufacture and repair.
- Explain how to prepare, bend and form metals for jewellery manufacture and repair.
- Describe different methods of joining and fastening metals for jewellery manufacture and repair.
- Describe how to identify gemstones by their density and relative density.
- Describe the different types of settings for jewellery manufacture and repair.
- Explain how to apply an enamel finish to jewellery.
- Explain how to make and adapt tools for specific purposes and how to keep them in good working order.
- Describe crystal systems and shapes as they apply to Jewellery manufacture.

Successful completion of course 7471 Manufacturing Jewellery Stage 1. (Theory)

Assessment
In-course work 100%. There is a theory assessment at the end of each module and these assessments are completed and returned by post or on-line to your tutor for marking once the study of a module is complete.
