About the course

This course guides students through the experience of undertaking a practicum or internship, with the aim of enhancing their professional skills. Students are responsible for negotiating an appropriate supervised placement that involves at least 100 hours of practical work in an area relevant to their course of study.

What’s in the course

Course materials guide students in the preparation of a practicum proposal and annotated bibliography and in the writing of a practicum report and reflective journal.

What students learn

The practicum allows students to broaden their professional skills and to integrate theoretical and practical learning. They can explore an area of their chosen profession that is new to them or work on a special project. Students also gain skills in literature searching and report writing.

Pre-Requisites

Students must have successfully completed either 40 credits at Level 7 in their major subject or five out of six relevant diploma courses before enrolling in this course.

Restrictions

Completing this course in one trimester requires students to plan ahead. Those intending to enrol in this course should discuss their intentions with a potential academic supervisor and with the course leader at least four weeks before enrolling.

Assessment

100% in-course, involving three assessments: a proposal and literature review, a report on the practicum, and a reflective journal.
